Sun Weidong, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Natural Resources, and his entourage conducted a field research in the district

On September 14, Sun Weidong, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Natural Resources, and his team conducted a field investigation of the saline-alkali land improvement project in Tongzhouwan Demonstration Zone. Wang Minghua, Deputy Director of the Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning, and Qian Jin and Shen Jie, members of the Party Working Committee and deputy directors of the Management Committee of the Demonstration Zone, accompanied the investigation.

At the site of the Phase II saline-alkali land improvement project, the investigation team carefully inquired about land use, geological conditions, and project progress. In the project experimental field area, Sun Weidong inspected the growth of the current season's rice and stated that saline-alkali land is an important strategic reserve of arable land resources. The key role of technological innovation should be leveraged to carry out comprehensive transformation and utilization in a classified and zoned manner, accelerating the selection and breeding of more salt-tolerant and alkali-resistant specialty varieties, effectively expanding the planting area, improving comprehensive efficiency, adhering to a systematic approach, focusing on using ecology to protect biodiversity, and actively exploring new models for the development of ecological agriculture in coastal saline-alkali land.

The Tongzhouwan saline-alkali land improvement project was launched in 2015. Phase I covers an area of nearly 5,000 mu, and Phase II is planned to cover approximately 2,500 mu. The project uses technical means such as natural plant ecological slope protection, biomass salt-removing ditches, and straw recycling to achieve a balance between production and ecology. In 2022, the area of rice planted in the Tongzhouwan saline-alkali land improvement project area totaled nearly 3,000 mu. In the future, the Tongzhouwan Demonstration Zone will strive to develop this project area into an agricultural industrial complex integrating saline-alkali land improvement demonstration, modern agricultural industry, leisure cultural tourism, health and wellness research and study, and featuring local characteristics, forming a modern coastal saline-alkali land ecological development model that integrates the primary, secondary, and tertiary industries.

Relevant department officials from the Provincial Department of Natural Resources, the Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning, and the Management Committee of the Demonstration Zone participated in the investigation.
