On October 24, a provincial field conference on the comprehensive utilization of unused saline-alkali land along the coast was held in the demonstration zone, attended by Vice Governor Xia Xinmin, who delivered a speech.
Xia Xinmin pointed out that strengthening the comprehensive utilization of saline-alkali land is an effective way to implement the strategy of "ensuring grain security through land and technology" and supplement reserve耕地 resources. All localities and relevant departments should thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important expositions on the comprehensive utilization of saline-alkali land and his important instructions on Jiangsu's work, in accordance with the national unified deployment and relevant provincial work requirements. They should adhere to a balanced approach encompassing ecological and productive aspects, governance and utilization, and short-term and long-term goals, continuously promoting the transformation, upgrading, and comprehensive utilization of saline-alkali land. A comprehensive inventory should be conducted, prioritizing the selection of contiguous, large-scale, lightly saline-alkali land for pilot projects, exploring replicable and generalizable models. Planning should guide the process, with scientific implementation plans, steady and orderly progress, and differentiated policies for different regions and types of land. Technological support should be strengthened, focusing on key areas such as "land treatment" and "cultivar development," enhancing collaborative research and development and application, and striving to improve the level of comprehensive utilization technology. Long-term management should be emphasized, with scientific calculation of comprehensive utilization costs, strengthened post-cultivation monitoring and maintenance, and prevention of salinization and abandonment. Responsibilities should be firmly established at all levels, with strengthened policy support, and effective publicity and promotion to create a positive atmosphere for the in-depth promotion of comprehensive utilization of saline-alkali land.
