Jianghai intermodal transport reaches a new level! The first voyage of inland river vessels within the Tongzhou Bay Class A waterway has been successfully completed.

On May 28, the first inland vessel carrying steel successfully docked at the Huateng Terminal of the Sanjiasha West Port Area in Tongzhou Bay via the Dongzao Port Lock. This vessel became the first to navigate since the approval of the corresponding A-class navigation area in the river-sea junction waters of the Tongzhou Bay Port Area, marking a new stage for river-sea intermodal transport in Tongzhou Bay.

After rigorous argumentation and meticulous deployment, the inland vessel "Suyancheng Cargo 096885", loaded with steel from Chengshiping Tide Wharf, departed via the Tongyang Canal, Tonglu Canal, and Dongzao New River, entered the sea through the Dongzao Port Lock, and safely docked at the Huateng Terminal in Sanjiasha, Tongzhou Bay, under the unified dispatch and full escort of the Nantong Maritime Department. The entire voyage was approximately 85km. This navigation was successfully completed under the unified coordination of the Municipal Port Construction Committee and the efficient cooperation of relevant departments. A navigation plan was scientifically formulated, taking into account weather and tidal conditions, ensuring the success of the first voyage of this A-class vessel.

On August 22, 2023, the river-sea junction waters of the Nantong Tongzhou Bay Port Area were designated as a corresponding A-class navigation area, approved by the Maritime Safety Administration of the Ministry of Transport, becoming the first such area approved in the Yangtze River Delta region. The successful completion of the first voyage of an inland vessel in this corresponding A-class navigation area fully demonstrates Tongzhou Bay's inherent advantages in river-sea intermodal transport, laying the foundation for the formal operation of the navigation area. Next, the demonstration zone will accelerate the construction of port infrastructure and improve port service capabilities to make greater contributions to the high-quality development of the city's coastal economy.
